The Do’s and Don’ts of Proposing During Christmas

Do’s and Don'ts of Proposing During Christmas

The festive season is here, and if you are lucky enough to be in love with the one, then you could be looking at ideas for a Christmas proposal. One issue with having a Christmas proposal is the fact that everyone has things planned. Whether this is a work Christmas party or a family get-together, it can be difficult to figure out the best way to propose. If you are thinking of doing a Christmas proposal, here are some do’s and don’ts you may want to keep in mind.

Think about what your partner will like

No matter if you are after a summer proposal or a Christmas proposal, you must first figure out the type of proposal they would prefer. Would they like a private engagement or would they rather be surrounded by friends and family? This will all make the difference in their dream proposal. Some may prefer to have the proposal at the dining table with everyone or they may prefer to have a proposal at their favorite walking spot or near the fireplace.

Don’t get cheesy.

With everyone celebrating the festive season, it is easy to get caught up with all the fun. At the end of the day, you are adding to the festivities with the added sparkle of art deco engagement rings or a ring they like. One thing that you need to make sure of is that you don’t get caught up too much and make it a cheesy proposal. When it comes to making a Christmas proposal, it is always nice to have a proposal with a glass of champagne at midnight on the new year, but dressing up as Santa Clause is a little too much.

Do have a private moment

When you have your answer to your perfect proposal, then you should take some time for you both to soak it all up. No matter if you go and have a drink before dinner or just step away after dinner for an hour. One thing that is certain, you should always announce the answer to everyone together.

Don’t forget to ask for help

When you are proposing, ensure that you have a few people “in the know” so that they can help you in any way you need and help make things run smoothly. It may be worth keeping the number of people “in the know” to a minimum so that the secret doesn’t leak. There are many people who can help with this such as their best friend or their sister as they will be able to help with what your future fiance will really want. So a mother can help to put the ring under the tree whereas a friend can help them be where they need to be at the right time.

Think about the rest of the proposal day

There’s nothing worse than a big proposal but then having nothing planned for the rest of the day, what an anticlimax. The day doesn’t end once you have proposed. Make sure you have something planned for the celebration, whether this be just the both of you or your with your favorite family and friends. It’s always best to have something planned for the rest of the day so you can make the day as special as you can for your partner. It can be nice to spend some time just thinking of the things you enjoy doing together and then get something booked for a nice meal or festive drinks with family and friends. If you are lucky enough to already have a plan in place, make sure you keep it close to your chest. The day should be full of surprises.
