Introduction

Summer is both one of the best times of year and a time for a little bit of relief. With it comes longer days and warmer weather, but also more time spent stuck in front of your computer or at the office. Fortunately, there are many ways to enjoy the outdoors without having to leave your backyard! I’ve rounded up some of my favorite hobbies that can be done in your own backyard.

Gardening

Gardening is a great hobby for the outdoorsy, but not everyone has the time or inclination to start from scratch. You can also lease plots, which give you access to someone else’s land and let you get started on your gardening journey without having to purchase all of the tools yourself. Also use a pest control.

If you’re looking for a more involved activity than just planting flowers and watching them grow, consider creating an edible garden. A little bit of research will help you decide what plants will work best in your area, as well as how many hours per day they need sunlight and water—and how much space they’ll take up in your backyard. Once you’ve found some seeds/plants that are right for where you live and how much time/energy/money you have available (and after making sure they’re legal), start by preparing the soil: Remove weeds or other unwanted growths from around where anything new will go; add fertilizer if needed; till up the earth so that it mixes well with any existing dirt; then finally plant!

Keep & Manage Honey Bee Colonies

  • Keep a honey bee colony. It’s not terribly complicated, but there are some things to know and do—and the rewards are well worth it. Honey bees are social insects that live in colonies and serve as pollinators for plants. They need a source of pollen and nectar to survive on, so if you have fruit trees or other plants that produce pollen, consider keeping bees!
  • Use varroa mite treatment. If you do decide to keep honey bees, one thing you’ll want to do is monitor the number of varroa mites on your bees (these pests can spread viruses). You’ll also want to treat them with chemicals if necessary; this is called “Varroa mite control,” which involves spraying chemicals on the colony’s hives every few months or so during the winter months when temperatures are cold enough for there not being any affect on humans who come into contact with these chemicals sprayed inside their homes while they’re sleeping at night, we recommend using only organic treatments, however, because they’re safer overall, even though they might not kill all those nasty critters right away!

Amateur Photography

Amateur photography is a great hobby to get into, especially if you’re looking for something to do outside. You can easily take photos of your family and friends whenever you want, no matter where or when. You’ll be able to record memories from special events like birthdays and weddings, or capture the simple moments that make up everyday life.

In addition to simply recording memories, amateur photographers have the ability to express themselves through their work—photography is one of the most versatile forms of art! It’s also easy enough to learn that anyone with a camera can do it—even if they don’t consider themselves artistic by any means!

Build Something by Yourself

If your backyard is full of clutter and you’re looking for a way to clear it out, don’t bother with a skip bin. Instead, take advantage of the opportunity to build something yourself.

You can use whatever materials are available in your yard to eliminate unnecessary waste by building a compost heap or converting an old washing machine into a planter. If you’re feeling ambitious and have more time than money on your hands, why not try building an outdoor bathroom from scratch?

Skip bins are typically used when there’s too much stuff that needs getting rid of, look at skip bins in Geelong but if you have a lot of junk lying around, why not consider giving some away instead? There are plenty of local charities that could make use of all those unwanted items sitting around in your backyard—and they might even pay for them!

Growing fruits and vegetables.

Growing fruit and vegetables is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and eat healthier. You can grow these foods in your backyard or on an apartment balcony, but you’ll need some space, so if you’re starting from scratch, consider planting seeds in pots first. Then, when they’re ready to be transplanted, they will be more likely to thrive in their new environment.

When growing fruits and vegetables:

  • Plant them at the right time of year for your climate (this varies by region).
  • Choose the right kind of plant for what you want to grow (for example: tomatoes vs beans; lettuce vs spinach; etc.).
  • Water them regularly until they are established enough that they can survive on their own without watering as much (or at all).

Creating an outdoor movie theater.

If you want to get back to the days of watching movies in your backyard, consider creating an outdoor movie theater.

To make this happen, start by building a screen out of plywood and corrugated plastic sheeting. Then get a projector and surround sound system that can be plugged into more than just one device—this way, you can watch TV or play video games on it as well. Find some comfy chairs (or perhaps some benches) and place them in front of your new screen, with an extension cord connecting them all together. Finally, pick up some popcorn and drinks at the store so that everyone can enjoy their evening in comfort!
